Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. Undated c1900. Hardback copy in red cloth boards with gold gilt lettering to spine. No dustjacket. 378pp + 4pp book catalogue to rear. Rough cut page edges. Embellished with reproductions of the whole of the engravings (20 in total including frontispiece). This volume is a reprint of Stothard's edition, published in 1820. Not library copy, no inscriptions. Wear to cloth at top edge of front board, some foxing to endpapers. (6/5).

Hard back binding in publisher's original aubergine cloth covers, gilt title and author lettering to the spine and the upper panel. Thick 9½'' x 7''. Contains [vi] 864 printed pages of text with monochrome illustrations throughout. Spine faded to white, a little foxing to the page edges, frontispiece and title page, binding firm and square, without any ownership markings. Member of the P.B.F.A. NINETEENTH CENTURY.

With topographical and historical descriptions by L.T. Ventouillac, in English and in French. Small folio. All issues in original printed wrappers, all with some wear, two issues lacking rear wrapper. No. 40 with one sheet of engravings damaged, no. 45 with lot number sticker to front wrapper, some issues with light foxing. London, R. Jennings and W. Chaplin; Paris, Treuttel & Wurtz, 1829 - A rare complete set in the original wrappers. Some issues include inlays with publisher's advertisements and printed notes on the publications.  A series that exemplifies the 19th century view of Paris as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the capital of culture. The avis to the verso of the first issue's wrapper reads: "'Qui n'a vu Paris n'a rien vu," dit l'ancien proverbe, vérifié ici par la foule innombrable d'étrangers qui vont tous les jours admirer les Monumens qui ornent notre capitale, et jouir sous le beau climat de la France des charmes qu'offrent à la fois et la nature et les beaux-arts.  Il est naturel que les personnes qui se voient privées de ce plaisir cherchent les moyens de s'en dédommager, et il est peut-être aussi naturel que celles qui en ont joui, désirent se les rappeler. C'est pour satisfaire à ces deux besoins que l'on publie l'ouvrage que nous offrons aujourd'hui au public, et qui doit plaire également aux habitans des deux pays. Le Français y verra avec une satisfaction, mêlée d'un orgueil bien pardonnable, les Monumens qui ornent la capital de sa patrie; tandis que les étrangers accueilleront avec non moins de plaisir une représentation exacte des Monumens qu'ils ont admiré, ou qu'ils espèrent un jour pouvoir visiter." The series includes engravings of various Parisian monuments such as the Pont Neuf, the Hotel des Invalides, the Tuileries Gardens, numerous churches, etc. by various artists after the British architect, designer and artist A. Pugin (1812-1852) and under the superintendence of C. Heath.
