This volume offers insight into approximately 3,000 works that document military dress across both British and foreign armies from the late seventeenth century to the early twentieth century.The book includes a general introduction detailing the origins of the collection and the organisation of the accompanying catalogue. Nearly 500 illustrations are featured, representing the efforts of around sixty artists. Notable contributors include David Morier, who produced a series of canvases around 1751 depicting every regiment of the British Army, and various soldiers from foreign armies allied during the War of the Austrian Succession. The Dighton family also plays a significant role, with works created by Robert and his sons in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. A. J. Dubois Drahonet is acknowledged for his commission by William IV in 1830, illustrating the uniforms of the British Army at that time. Other influential artists in the volume include Dirk Langendyk and his son Jan Antony, N. D. Finart, A. I. Sauerweid, J. B. Seele, Eugéne Lami, Henry Alken, George H.
