In the section on the peripheral neuron, the peripheral operative procedures and results are contrasted with the topographic relationships, pathologicanatomic and electro-physiologic findings at the trigeminal root and at the ganglion, while the differential diagnosis in atypical neuralgias is discussed with regard to a clearly demarcated indication for Operation. In the section on the medullary trigeminal neuron,the electron microscopic structure of the caudal nucleus of the spinal trigeminal root and the experimental production of paroxysmal discharges from this nucleus reveal significant consequences for the pharmacological and medical therapy of tic douloureux, especially by means of the anti-epileptic drug Tegretol. The section an supranuclear structures deals with the electrophysiology of pain in specific thalamus nuclei and the subdivision of the pain conductor into cortical and subcortical (based an experience with fiber systems, stimulus physiology and therapy).
