Around 2013, British artist Ryan Humphrey, working through a scene from Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, found himself instinctively casting Bart Simpson as Akira and Milhouse as the dying Takashi. He posted the pages online. Comics artist James Harvey saw them and proposed something considerably less reasonable: redraw every page of all six volumes of Akira, panel for panel, using the full cast of The Simpsons.
