This is a volume in the publisher's 'Little Craft Books' series, edited by F.V. Burridge, and is devoted to lithography. After an introductory chapter containing reflections and suggestions on the art, the book contains chapters on its history and place in fashion, and the final two chapters are instructive. The book is bound in the original coloured marbled cloth covered boards with a white cloth spine and gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and light soiling to the boards and spine. The spine ends are lightly bumped. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.…

With eight plates by Scottish lithographer Archibald Standish Hartrick to each volume, collated and complete. In both volumes, the plates do not appear at the pages they are called for. In most instances the plates are close, but the plate called for at page 67 of the Vultures can be found at page 31, and the plate called for at page 88 can be found at page 97. In the Velvet Glove, the plate called for at page 12 can be found at page 30. Writing under the pen name Henry Seton Merriman, Hugh Stowell Scott was an English novelist best known for his novel, The Sowers. With three pages of publisher's adverts to the front and rear paste downs and front and rear endpapers of both volumes. Prior owner's ink inscription to the front cover of both volumes, 'E. L. Trollope'. Their inscription can also be found to the title page of the Velvet Glove. Undated. Date approximated using JISC from estimates of the University of Oxford.
