Inscription reads To Joe & Martha Greenhill with admiration & respect Harry Provence April 2 '64. This is believed to be "the" Joe Greenhill who was Joe Robert Greenhill (July 14, 1914 - February 11, 2011) was an American attorney. He served on the Texas Supreme Court for 25 years, 10 of those as chief justice. Born in Houston, Texas, Greenhill attended the University of Texas, where he earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in 1936 and a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1939 where he was a member of the Texas Cowboys. During World War II, he served as junior officer in the United States Navy, first in intelligence and then as executive officer of a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theater. He became Assistant Attorney General of the State of Texas in 1948, co-founded Graves, Dougherty & Greenhill in 1950 and was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court in 1957, where he served until 1982. He received an honorary Doctor of Law degree from Southern Methodist University in 1977. Greenhill was of counsel at Baker Botts. Harry Provence, was a Texas newspaperman [Editor, Waco Tribune-Herald] and his book puts a bit more emphasis on the parochial Johnson â"the Texas politician and family man--than some others produced shortly after he became President. Lyndon Baines Johnson (August 27, 1908 - January 22, 1973), often referred to by his initials LBJ, was an American politician who served as the 36th president of the United States from 1963 to 1969. He previously served as the 37th vice president from 1961 to 1963 under President John F. Kennedy, and was sworn in shortly after Kennedy's assassination. A Democrat from Texas, Johnson also served as a U.S. representative, U.S. Senator and the Senate majority leader. He is one of the few presidents who served in all elected offices at the federal level. Born in a farmhouse in Stonewall, Texas, to a local political family, Johnson worked as a high school teacher and a congressional aide before winning election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1937. In 1948, he was controversially declared winner in the Democratic Party's primary for the 1948 Senate election in Texas and won the general election. He became Senate Majority Whip in 1951, Senate Democratic leader in 1953 and majority leader in 1954. In 1960, Johnson ran for the Democratic nomination for president. Ultimately, Senator Kennedy bested Johnson and his other rivals for the nomination, then surprised many by offering to make Johnson his vice presidential running mate. The Kennedy-Johnson ticket won in the 1960 presidential election. Vice President Johnson assumed the presidency on November 22, 1963, after President Kennedy was assassinated. The following year, Johnson was elected to the presidency, receiving 61.1% of the popular vote in the 1964 presidential election, the largest share won by any presidential candidate since the 1820 election.
