Zustand: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren. Gedichte zweisprachig. Englisch/deutsch. 85 Seiten, broschiert (mdv Mitteldeutscher Verlag 2022). Statt EUR 12,00. Gewicht: 132 g - Softcover/Taschenbuch.

Materials presented drawn largely from the Jean-Noël Herli Archive. "Exhibition invitations? I've seen a few. Any working art critic inevitably acquires an extensive knowledge of this genre of printed ephemera. Heralding gallery and museum shows, invitations flood the mailbox, crowd the desk and all too often accumulate so intractably on the kitchen counter as to seem part of the decor. You can't live with them, and until the show is over, you can't throw them out. Still, life without such art-world byproducts would be a lot more difficult. Not only do they convey the important facts -- the who, when and where -- of shows that need to be seen. They're also advertisements bent on seducing us into attendance by being clever, eye-catching or provocative -- although sometimes they nip interest in the bud. (There's probably no art lover with mailing-list credentials who hasn't held up some gallery announcement and said, "Forget it!") Invitations are style statements in a minor key, ancillary artworks of a collective sort. Designed by artists, by graphic designers, by art dealers and museum curators -- usually a combination of the above -- they are the advance guard for the real thing. Their merit is judged in the very act of reading one's mail." -- Roberta Smith, "Art Invitations As Small Scraps Of History," New York Times, May 16, 1993. Very Good. Light edge wear. Contents clean and unmarked.

Cloth. Zustand: Near fine. The Rights of Man: The 1960 Democratic Platform, signed by former President Harry S. Truman. (illustrator). First Edition. Octavo, 53pp, [1]. Printed wraps, bound along the spine with metal staples. Pamphlet is dated July 12, 1960. Faint dampstain to rear panel, impacting the last leaves of text. Housed in custom blue cloth folder, title on front panel in gilt over black morocco label. Includes a "Letter of Authenticity" from JSA Authentication. Pamphlet signed on the front cover: "I hope Pauline Anderson will read this document. Harry Truman." During the 1960 Democratic presidential primary, former President Harry S. Truman opposed John F. Kennedy's candidacy, arguing that Kennedy was too young, inexperienced, and overly dependent on his father's influence. Truman favored his fellow Missourian, Senator Stuart Symington, and privately encouraged his nomination. He even suggested that Kennedy would be better suited for the vice-presidency rather than the top of the ticket, advice Kennedy firmly rejected. After Kennedy won the nomination at the Los Angeles convention, Truman withheld enthusiasm and did not campaign actively for him, but he eventually offered formal support in the interest of party unity against Richard Nixon. From the collection of Pauline Anderson (1923-2005), the secretary to the "President John F. Kennedy for President Campaign" in Seattle in 1960. She was a lifelong democrat, who worked for the Democratic National Committee and the Adlai Stevenson for President Campaign. Signed.
