Unbound. Uncommon A.L.S. as President Elect, a rather cryptic communication, 8vo. 1 page, Indianapolis, January 15th 1889, addressed to "My Dear Sir" but with John Wanamaker's personal correspondence "received" stamp on verso, in part: ".As my reply to your letter of the 10th has been so long delayed - I have now mind you as follows: 'He ought to postpone his trip for one week.' You will not understand - this is undertaking a conclusion - and quite frankly the matter is under friendly consideration." John Wanamaker assisted Benjamin Harrison during the 1888 presidential election and many newspaper editorials at the time were predicting that he would receive a patronage appointment. It is possible that with two and a half months already passing without communication from Harrison, Wanamaker was becoming apprehensive. But he needn't have worried: Harrison appointed him the 35th US Postmaster General and he served from 1889-1893. Fine condition. Twenty-third President of the United States, serving from March 4th 1889 to March 4th 1893.
