In den WarenkorbFirst edition, first impression, the dedication copy, the printed dedication "To Victor Gollancz, Isabel's Friend" supplemented with the author's inscription "to the above with the author's love. Question: Tell, oh tell! Who the Hell is Isabel? Answer: fool, don't you see? Friend of V.G. Good enough for me! H.F.R. 29.1.27". The recipient was the British left-wing publisher Victor Gollancz (1893-1967), founder of the eponymous firm. Rubinstein was Gollancz's brother-in-law and his solicitor, a partner in Rubinstein, Nash & Co. His speciality was libel law, following his defence of Radclyffe Hall's Well of Loneliness, and he represented Gollancz in libel cases. His advice to Gollancz resulted in changes to the text of various novels, including those of George Orwell. Octavo. Original blue cloth, printed paper label to spine and front cover. Light toning to label and bumping at extremities, contents clean; an excellent copy.
