Previous owner's inscription to front endpaper. Mild thumb-marking present. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and light marking to boards. Notable sunning to spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Mild water stains and droplets to surfaces. Book has forward lean. Boards are mildly warped.…

Harold Frank Wallace (1881-1962) was a Scottish artist, hunter and adventurer. As an artist, he was particularly well-known for his paintings of deer and Highland wildlife scenes. He also wrote several books describing his worldwide hunting experiences, and was closely associated with many of the well-known big game hunters of his time, leading to his membership in the Boone and Crockett Club. In this book he tells of his experiences hunting big game in Europe, Russia, Scotland, New Zealand, China, Australia, Canada, and the Sudan. There is also a chapter on the preservation of big game. The book is bound in the original red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and gold-stamped facsimile signature on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The corners and spine ends are bumped and the spine is faded and slightly cocked. The contents are tight and clean with some light foxing to the first and last few pages. There is an inscription dated 1934 on the front free endpaper.…

Frank Wallace recounts his experiences of deer stalking - red and roe - with many amusing yarns and a section on trophies. Small digressions are made into goat and grouse shooting. The book includes eight colour plates, as well as many b/w plates and sketches. Amongst the author's illustrations are to be found some by Lionel Edwards, John Guille Millais and Raoul Millais. J.G. Millais receives a chapter to himself, as does "the work of the late H. E. O. Murray Dixon." . …
