Wir können nicht nur von der endlosen Vielfalt abgelenkt werden, sondern unsere Aufmerksamkeit wird auch von den Launen des Lichtes und Wetters abgelenkt, welche eine dauernde Betonungsänderung hervorrufen. Einige Orte in den Rockies ragen hervor - Orte wie Castle Mountain, Lake Louise, Athabasca Gletscher, Mt. Edith Cavell und Mt. Robson. Sie sind ausgeprägt und viele waren der Anziehpunkt vom Anfang an seit Menschen zu den Bergen kamen. Mt. Edith Cavell, Voyageuren als La Montagne de la Grande Traverse bekannt, wurde als Richtungspunkt für Reisen über den Athabascapaß verwendet. Lake Louise kannten die Indianer als See der Kleinen Fische, der am Fuße des Großen Schneeberges lag. Diese Orte haben für uns weiterhin eine große Anziehungskraft.
