With promotion of the Edition de Luxe on the verso of the title page. ~~"Images et commentaires" by "L'Oncle Hansi", otherwise known as Jean-Jacques Waltz, an Alsatian artist and staunchly pro-French activist. As only the French can do, he started publishing in the early 1900's satirical works making fun of the German tourists. His drawings for children's books are charming, none more so than in Mon Village. "There is a little village deep in the countryside of Alsace in France. To find it, get off the train at a small station decorated with flowers, and walk down a narrow road between some orchards." Need we say more? Very Good binding.

His drawings for children's books are charming, those in Le Paradis Tricolor being no exception. A work dedicated to freedom for his fellow comrade in Alsace, the title bespeaks Waltz' nationalistic leadings. Patterned endpapers, and board charmingly bound in striped fabric of Alsace; with evocative illustrations, many of them full page. A light stain to the front board; otherwise a clean and bright copy. Mylar has been custom cut to protect the binding. Near Fine binding.

Zustand: Bon. 2ème Édition. rare album de 1915 avec ses 16 hors texte reliure toilée signée ENGEL illustrations de HANSI La parution de L'histoire d'Alsace vaut à Hansi une condamnation devant les tribunaux allemands, le 9 mai 1913. Ceux-ci goûtent peu l'humour un peu vif dont est parsemé le livre, et condamne…nt Hansi à une forte amende lors du « procès des faméliques » . Le livre, malgré le procès (ou bien conforté par lui) eut beaucoup de succès. En 1914, Hansi est de nouveau condamné, cette fois à de la prison ferme. Il gagne la France où il s'engage, à 41 ans, dans l'armée française comme interpréte l'album eut sa 1e édition en 1912 avec 99 pages en 1915 son édition passa à 104 pages (pages à mes petits neveux avec un hors-texte supplémentaire SAVERNE).
