Frederic Augustus James of Boston was a member of the Union Navy. Captured during an ill-ventured night attack against Fort Sumter on 8 September 1863, James spent the next twelve months in no less than five Confederate prisons. He died of disease and malnutrition at Andersonville Prison on 15 September 1864.
