In den Warenkorbpaperback. Zustand: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. Fist Edition Thus. 2000. 164pp. Cover illustration by Fred Crayk. "Hamish Henderson is one of the most interesting, not to say outstanding, voices of 20th century Scotland and his poetry, by its very nature, evokes much that is vital to Scottish and European history, society and culture. These are poems of lyrical intensity and gentle humour, of subtle irony and satirical intent, of profound humanity and, on occasion, of cold steel. Henderson writes with fire in his belly and love in his heart of war and peace, of the Highland, urban and desert landscapes, of the footslogging and swaddie and the resistance hero, of childhood memories and erotic encounters, of pain, love, regret and death. And hope. . But perhaps the underlying and unifying concern is faith: faith in ordinary humanity to pull through whatever the odds. Of the many outstanding 20th century poets Scotland has produced, it is perhaps Henderson, above all the others, who gives to that ordinary humanity in its quest for survival and for better days." The book is in very good condition. Gift inscription to top of the first page.

New edition of the first edition from 1948 and with a new introduction by Sorley Maclean, foreword to the 1948 edition, reviews and letters. 69pp. Hamish Scott Henderson (1919-2002) was a Scottish poet, songwriter, communist, intellectual and soldier. He was also a catalyst for the folk revival in Scotland and a folk song collector. He took part in the Desert War in Africa, during which he wrote his poem Elegies For the Dead in Cyrenaica, encompassing every aspect of a soldier's experience of the sands of North Africa. The book is bound in the original cream card covers with green titling on the front cover. The book is in very good condition and the contents are secure and clean with a small light stain near the bottom of pages 16 and 17. A one-word correction has been made to the last line of the introduction and the front free endpaper has been signed by the author thus: "Best wishes Hamish Hamilton". The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear and there is a large (coffee?) stain on the back that has caused some wrinkling. SIGNED COPY.
