C.ppxvi, 60, a.e.g, fragile cloth binding fraying and with some splits along hinges, but overall a very good copy of a scarce and delicate book. ** A rare book : and this copy with a significant double Cambridge association. Endpaper with the flourished signature of William Bond, Cambridge. Bond was a prime mover in the festival : as the author Thomas Hallack describes it (p.6) : 'At this juncture Mr Bond's plan [for a General Dinner on Parker's Piece] came out . and the Secretary [the author Thomas Hallack] records it with pleasure that the whole merit of originating this plan belongs to him [ie. Bond]' . ** Endpaper also with the attractive Lister calligraphic booklabel in the Cambridge style (Reynolds Stone / Will Carter / David Kindersley). Raymond Lister, bibliophile scholar & collector of William Blake, was also the owner and managing director of the Cambridge metalwork firm George Lister & Sons founded by his grandfather. Lister has added an extensive pencil note beneath Bond's signature : 'William Bond and the author Thomas Hallack were partners in the old grocery firm of Hallack and Bond on Market Hill, Cambridge. One of the Bond family possibly William's son was of great help to my grandfather, George Lister, when he first set up in business. The Arnold on p.36 was probably a relative of my mother.' *** Four copies only listed in UK libraries : the First Edition in the BL (pp.viii, 56) and in Trinity College, Cambridge, (ppxiii, 56). The Second Edition, as here, also in Trinity, and in Cambridge University Library. The book was issued with a plate depicting Parker's Piece.
