Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Franklin Library editions. Two volumes bound into one. Octavo. [4 blank], [5], 6-147, [1 blank], [3], 4-280, [4 blank] pp. Half leather gilt over Ribbon-embossed cloth (*Krupp* At7). Tiny old private library label on spine. Binding heavily worn at the corners, joints rubbed and lacking a portion at the crown, the interior with occasional tanning and very occasional light foxing (mostly confined to the endleaves and first book), and page edges a bit soiled, sound but good only. Two uncommon volumes bound in an interesting and very uncommon Abstract-textured bookcloth that was used circa 1832-1839. Frederick Marryat, a Royal Navy officer and novelist, is seen today as a pioneer of nautical fiction. He also developed an early flag system for signaling between merchant vessels.
