Painted on artist's board measuring 20" x 13", with a sketch of a frigate, two nautical designs, and hand-painted letters tipped-in onto the board; with a protective paper overlay. Signed by the artist. A few small penciled measurements on the bottom margin, very light spotting at the edges, about near fine. The map charts the voyage of the American frigate Essex under Captain David Porter in the War of 1812. Werstein's adventure tells the true story of this great wooden ship with her iron men, who for seventeen months succeeded almost single-handedly in paralyzing British shipping. The artist H.
