Moderate rubbing and faint dampstaining to wrappers, heavier rubbing to extremities with wear to spine ends. Moderate toning and light foxing, faint dampstaining to sections of text, corner folds to several leaves, clean tear to leaf 7 (pp. 49-50), early owner inscription ("Robt. Fitch/ August 29th 1822") to front endleaf. $500. * Only edition. Robert Grant, a physician who treated one of Hall's students, alleged that Hall, a teacher, was responsible for the student's death, which destroyed her reputation and that of the school she kept. Hall sued Grant for fifteen counts of libel; the jury awarded her $250 in damages. The first page has a statement by Grant that indicates his interest in the publication of this pamphlet.
