In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Undated, dated from copies held by the British Library. Both volumes feature a colour frontispiece. Volume I is then followed by thirty-three plates, and Volume II by twenty-nine plates, the majority of which are in colour. Collated, complete. Illustrated by Melicent Wathen, a British artist, also known for her memoirs on the 1919 Amritsar massacre and as the wife of Gerard Anstruther Wathen, a leading figure in British India's Education Service. With artwork also by the lesser known Haldar Joo Walli. A lovely, contemporary guide to the flowers of Kashmir, including descriptions and illustrations to each example. Written by the prominent Swiss botanist and Jesuit priest Ethelbert Blatter, who committed signficant time to researching the flora of the Indian subcontinent, which was also within his role as the Principal and Professor of Botany at Bombay's St Xavier College. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Pencil inscription from the previous owner to the front free endpapers. Externally, smart with minor bumping and rubbing, leading to slight loss of cloth to the spine head, tail and tips, culminating in more significant cracking to the rear joint of Volume II, leaving the board particularly delicate. Further sunning, more concentrated along the spines, and marking to both copies. Internally, generally firmly bound, weaker to the rear hinge of Volume II.
