A collection of poems, including: The Land's End, To a Bee, The Rose of The Day, and Home to My Love. Written by Henry Sewell Stokes,… a British poet and schoolfellow of Charles Dickens. Sewell Stokes later befriended both Tennyson and Robert Stephen Hawker. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and bumping to the extremities. The odd light mark to the board. Library marking to tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 2nd Edition. This ex- Library book is in good condition given its age. No Dust jacket. The boards are bound in a dark green patterned cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. The spine and corners are in good condition. Library stamps on inside cover and on reverse of title page but otherwise the pages a…re in good condition, without marks or notations, but with some discolouration and slight foxing or yellowing through age. The wonderful B/w plates are from stone lithographs by Haghe,C. & designs by Philip. J.G. and are all intact and in very good condition with some having tissue guards. 5 lithographic plates on India paper, 285 x 430 mm. and an etching 330 x 470 mm. Each plate accompanied by a page of text. The plates and text of part 1 of "Picturesque Delineations of the Highlands of Scotland." In 1825 George Anderson, the Inverness solicitor who founded the Northern Institution for the Promotion of Science an…d Literature supplied the text for a set of views published by his friend Mr. John Guy Hamilton. The work had been intended to appear in four parts, but only the first part seems to have been published. The text was printed by James Ballantyne of Edinburgh. The views are: Loch Ness from Dores, Pass of Inverfarrikaig, Falls of Foyers, Urquhart Castle and Culloden House. The outline prospect is untitled and may be a proof etching before aquatint; the image is untraced. BL, NLS Aberdeen University and University of Guelph [Canada] are the only locations. The NLS copy is coloured.
