Très rare édition original tirée à 150 exemplaires, celui-ci un des 5 sur japon, premier grand papier (n° 3). D'après Vicaire, elle ne fut jamais mise dans le commerce. L'auteur, qui se dit « mandarin lettré », demeure anonyme. Ce curieux ouvrage n'est pas une monographie sérieuse sur le thé. Il s'agit plutôt d'un recueil facétieux d'aphorismes - qui termine par le suivant : « Etant donné les circonstances ordinaires, si vous voulez prendre du thé buvez du chocolat » - et d'anecdotes hétéroclites relatives au thé, avec des digressions sur la cuisine - y compris des recettes. « Dieu m'est témoin que mes intentions étaient pures et que j'avais la ferme volonté de donner ici un cours de thé et non un cours de soupe. Mais que voulez-vous ? - Le vertige du consommé m'attire. - Après avoir parlé du thé de mes amis, je ressens le besoin de me réconforter un peu.
