Zustand: Good (+) for age and genre. 1st ed. t.p.+Preface+tipped in errata slip+100; small fairly early ownership stamp top verso fr.endpaper, main problems are tanning to inner sides of endpapers (outer sides and pastedowns being brown), t.p. and final leaf of text with spots intermittently elsewhere, plus light marginal pencil lining intermittently throughout with a 3 line bottom marginal note, incipient gutter opening between pp.96/7. Brown gilt-lettered cloth covers would be very good but for a 2.5 cm. cloth tear to front joint, being otherwise clean and almost unworn. Presence of errata slip possibly a point in its favour.

H. A. Ouvry. First edition. Bound in the publisher's red cloth. Very scarce work. Written by Col. H. A. Ouvry. A valuable commentary regarding the reforms introduced by Baron von Stein, a Prussian statesman known for his drastic action taken in the nearly-bankrupt Prussian state of the early nineteenth century. Notably, von Stein promoted the abolition of serfdom, placed restrictions on the nobility and established a modern municipal system. Ouvry presents his view on the situation, suggesting that Stein introduced these reforms for his own gain, and to encourage the re-establishment of German independence. With an appendix containing the views of Richard Cobden on the matter, as well as J. S. Mill's advice to land reformers. Bound in the publisher's red cloth. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities, a little darkening to the cloth and a few marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with a few spots to the first few pages. Very Good. book.
