Energy and weight would be counteracted and on a total scale, change would not occur. Such buildings are always in transition from one state to another, unlike conventional structures. This approach is basically the opposite of conventional design methods in engineering when a worst-case scenario is applied to the designed structure. The benefits of trans-structure are not only energy-saving and better thermal comfort, but also create a more innovative and cost-effective building as well. This approach to stability represents a completely new paradigm for sustainability, based on the assumption that strong structures are not truly stable, because real stability comes with response-ability. This book is compromised of two main parts: theoretical essays and an introduction of constructed prototypes. The former lays down the framework of trans-structure and is also accompanied by photos and diagrams of the laboratory tests. The constructed prototypes are each discussed in one or two interviews with a key designer of the project and then discussed with a further analysis of the design. Theoretical essays are written by Matyas Gutai (JSPS Postdoctoral Researcher at The University of Tokyo, designer of Water House pavilion and inventor of patented Allwater panel technology). The interviews include project architects and engineers from the Kengo Kuma Architects and professors from universities in Japan, USA and Europe.

The ZERO and GUTAI art movements were radical, postwar international avant-garde groups that redefined art by prioritising materials, performance, and the creative process over traditional repres…entation. Both groups rejected prewar conventions, deeply influencing later conceptual and performance art. Yayoi KUSAMA shared their avant-garde visions and took part in many of their exhibitions. GUTAI Art Association (Japan) was founded in 1954 in the Osaka-Kobe region by JirM Yoshihara, Gutai was an influential collective of Japanese artists known for experimental, action-based works. Artists were instructed to "never imitate others" and to allow the human spirit and raw physical materials to "shake hands" without dominating one another. Famous for interactive, large-scale installations, live performances, and unconventional methods, such as painting with feet or launching paint from cannons. ZERO (Germany) was founded in the late 1950s in D sseldorf by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene. The ZERO group sought a clean break from the destruction of World War II to create a new, positive beginning for art. Artists embraced light, movement, space, vibration, and monochrome colors (often utilizing pure white, light reflections, and kinetic sculptures). They shifted focus from the artist's personal touch to the autonomous life of light and mechanical movement. KUSAMA (Japan). Yayoi Kusama was not an official member of either the Zero or Gutai movements. However, she shared their avant-garde philosophies, and became an active participant in their European exhibitions during the 1960's. Colour reproductions of works.
