A wonderful school prize binding of this splendid and lavishly illustrated work, in full red morocco leather on heavy boards, with elaborate gilt decoration and school crest on front board, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. 117 full page illustrations by Dor listed, plus numerous others in the text. xxviii, 737 pages, complete. Foxing on first 6 pages and last four pages but none elsewhere, and pages and plates are all clean. 12 leaves are on different stock which has aged a bit grey but otherwise is clean (see image). There is a neat inscription dated 1878 on the flyleaf presenting the book as a prize to Harold Bawtree. Externally there is some light wear to extremities, short split to top front joint, but overall the condition is very good. …
