Natural hazards are naturally occurring processes forming an experience to human being depending on where one lives. Floods volcanoes tornadoes bushfires and hurricanes are the possible threats which affect the environment and thus our lives. To find out the outcome of the problem it requires exploring the reason of its origin and the possible antidotes so that it can dwindle to some extent. Planning managing and implementing environmentally sound strategies are the supreme measures in this concern. Also organizing a series of workshops / trainings on management of natural disaster could be an aid in consecutive steps. Hence the above workshop was organised and the proceedings of the workshop have been arranged in a sequential manner. From the Preface Induced breeding and polyculture of carps are well known technologies being extensively adopted on a large scale in almost all parts of the country. The thrust in aquaculture has led to more demand for quality stocking material. Ever increasing demand of quality seed cannot be met by collection of seed from natural resources i.e. rivers canals etc. Many aquaculturists and agencies those were earlier dependant on natural fish seed collection have switched over to artificial fish seed production in recent years. Since the establishment of Pond Culture Division of Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute at Cuttack in 1949 and presently the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture Bhubaneswar it has made epoch making contributions to R and D in aquaculture in the country. Two major technologies such as induced breeding and composite culture of carps laid the foundations of Indian Aquaculture. CIFA has developed technologies to produce seed for a prolonged duration covering pre and post monsoon months by multiple spawning of carps. This would provide full time employment to the farmers engaged in multiple breeding and thereafter for multiple cropping of table size carps. 164 pp.

About The Author: Jawaharlal Nehru University ndhi" Title="indiragandhi">Indira Gandhi born in Malaysia and received the Indian name 'Asoka' from Tagore (at Santiniketan) in 1929, grew up in China, and spent 45 years (19551999) in India teaching in Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University and other institutions (from 1958 to 1994). After having served as Head of the Department of Chinese and Japanese Studies of Delhi University, and Chairman of the Centre for AfroAsian Languages and the Centre for East Asian Languages of Jawaharlal Nehru University, and as Professorconsultant and Head of East Asia Research in the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi, he now resides at Chicago in retirement. He has authored and edited 19 books (11 in English, 7 in Chinese, one bilingual). His China and the Brave New World and Triton and Dragon have provided useful references for the teaching of 19th century China in India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other places. His India and China : Twenty Centuries of Civilizational Interaction and Vibrations (coauthored with Prof. Geng Yinzeng of Peking University), is Part 6 of Volume III in the encyclopaedic series of History of Science, Philosophy and Culture in Indian Civilization. The recent Book Tagore and China which he initiated and edited with other scholars breaks new ground in the studies on Tagore as well as on IndiaChina cultural affinity.
