It was prepared substantially in its present form and approved by the University of Calcutta as a thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Having noticed the latest landmark in the currency history of India, namely the report of the Hilton-Young Commission, he has updated the present version. There is however no fixity and finality of things during a transition period. New happenings may soon make new currency history and events move too quickly.
