Livraisons 1-10. 160 (including title-page) p., 23 hand-coloured plates, loose and uncut (!) in original printed wrappers (first wrapper chipped). A new edition of this book of which the first appeared in 1832-1842 [and a later edition of 1849]. First 10 installments of a total of 31 (if identically published as first edition). The beautiful 23 plates here offered are very clean and well coloured. No information is to be found on this 1871 edition (not in Nissen, not in Cat. of Book BMNH, not on internet). As Duponchel died in 1846 this edition (by Deyrolle Fils, Paris) was carried out by Achille Guénée (1809-1880). It should be complete with 93 plates, as there is no information on this edition it is not known if the work was ever finished.

Amsterdam & Parijs, 1762. Dit werk van De Pinto werd herdrukt in het werk van Ant. Guénée en van daaruit vertaald in het Nederlands.Voltaire had in het gewraakte hoofdstuk de joden hebzuchtig, losbandig en bijgelovig genoemd, kwalificaties die De Pinto bestreed onder verwijzing naar maatschappelijke oorzaken voor het gedrag van niet de sefardische maar de asjkenazische joden. (.) De Réflexions critiques, waar Voltaire minzaam op antwoordde, luidde de publicistische carrière van De Pinto in (.). In 1766 publiceerde De Pinto een antwoord op de in twee recensies geuite kritiek met betrekking tot de pro-sefardische strekking van zijn Réflexions critiques. I.J.A.
