Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Memoirs of Leon Daudet' provides a captivating and often provocative window into the vibrant cultural and political landscape of France during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As the son of the renowned novelist Alphonse Daudet, Léon Daudet moved within the highest echelons of Parisian society, interacting with the most influential writers, artists, and politicians of his era. This collection of his recollections, edited and translated by Arthur Kingsland Griggs, captures the essence of a tumultuous period marked by the Dreyfus Affair, the rise of nationalist movements, and the flourishing of the Belle Époque. The memoirs are distinguished by Daudet's sharp wit, his staunch royalist convictions, and his insightful portraits of contemporary figures. Readers will find vivid accounts of literary salons, the inner workings of the French press, and the intense political rivalries that defined the Third Republic. More than just a personal history, 'Memoirs of Leon Daudet' serves as an essential primary source for understanding the intellectual undercurrents and social dynamics of modern France. It offers a unique perspective on the intersection of literature and politics through the eyes of one of the period's most controversial and talented polemicists. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
