Very rare memoir of a War of 1812 officer from North Carolina, who served as Chief of Artillery of the Northern Army on the Niagara frontier, distinguished for his actions in the Battle of Niagara and the defense of Fort Erie. McRee (1787-1833) later served as a Colonel in the Corps of Engineers, rising to Surveyor General. The memoir was written by his nephew, Griffith J. McRee (1819-1872).
