Staplebound but wraps have detached from the staples, separate from body of text. Pages themselves bound neatly and tightly, only very minor rusting from staples at spine. Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Softcover with blue and white wraps, front cover advertising Dunlop tires. Two small spots of white paint on front, each has been colored in by former owner to match the cover itself, otherwise just minor shelf wear to wraps. Formerly staplebound, staples appear to have been removed at some point (but are evidenced by small, nondisruptive spots of rusting) and the volume was reconstructed with a strong, careful tape binding. All clear tape, does not obstruct any text, very neat. Pages clean and bright, feature black and white photography and one large fold-out map at center. Cover and title page dated April 21, 1937; no separate copyright page. Pages numbered 452 through 486, 60 separately numbered pages of advertisements. Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Hardcover. 4to. Sampson, Low and Marston, London, UK. 1940. 300 pgs. Illustrated with Black and White Plates. Bound in cloth boards with gilt titles present. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. It is all that can be expected of the Jane's yearlies at the close of WW2. It covers the Allies well, as good a job as probably could have been done for their enemies, and good coverage of the neutrals. The quality of the photos leaves something to be desired, many look as if this volume was done by scanning the original pages with a pixal-ly deficient copier. On the other hand, it has reasonable views of such well known aircraft as the Gotha Go345 transport, the Faucett F-19 and the Swedish J-22. There is also a good section on the world's aircraft engines. As is well known, the secret to designing a good plane is to start with a good powerplant. Hundreds of examples of military aircraft are described but most striking in comparison to the 1918 edition, is the inclusion of a wide variety of civilian and passenger aircraft, illustrating how quickly the wartime aviation industry turned its hand to civilian aviation.
