Contains in the introduction the treatise on Roman Martyriology by Caesar Baronius. (In Latin). Contemporary black sheepskin, all edges gilt, smooth gilt decorated back. Venetiis ( Venezia ) , Apud Iuntas ( Lucantonio Il Giunta ) , 1582, in-folio, 37 x 25 cm, ( 8) nn pp + 259 pp + (1)nn pp ( complete). Entirely printed in red and black, titlepage and last page with large printer's mark printed in red, title with woodcut vignet, several woodcut ills. in the text. Full page canon plate on pp.(8), printed in two colums. Many pages with printed music scores ( staves printed in red). All pages printed within a double typographical fillet. Bound in somewhat (?) later full calf. Both covers decorated with central floral decoration and a large floral decoration at the four corners. All edges gilt. Raised gilt spine. A very fine copy with a spotless interior and a finely preserved binding with minimal traces of use. Only quality remark pertains to a non obtrusive dark line on the front cover ( due to a waterstain which left no other visible traces). Indeed a remarkebly fine and well preserved copy. Provenance : the book carries several manuscript ex-libris and also two printed; The oldest seems to be Jacobi Desboie. (de Ludio - 1607 ) (made illegible); this would be Jacques Desboia, curé de Lude ( dept. Sarthe). In 1644 it belonged to Jacobi Baudry curé de Lude. The printed ex-libris refer to Houdebert de Saint-Aubin, prêtre; the most recent is from Louis Ernest Dubois (1856 - 1929) archbischop of Bourges (he became later cardinal of Paris). The priest Houdebert de Saint-Aubin was also active in Lude. He left his library to ''L'Hopital de la Miséricorde de Lude'' (he died in 1784.) (répertoire des ex-libris français H0530). USTC N° 820855. Lists 53 copies, ,none in the Netherlands , nor German speaking countries. (Due to larger/size weight of this book, additional shipping charges may apply depending on customer location.).
