The first, a bright color painting of a young female elf shepherd, with pointed ears, is painted on 10 inch high by 7-1/2 inch wide light yellow illustration board. The painting portrays the young elf w…ith braided golden hair above pointed ears with large eyes glancing over her shoulders. She is attired in a white & blue flowing dress while holding a shepherd's crook as a lamb hides behind her skirt. Signed "vonRackel" at bottom right of the image. Fine. Together with a brightly colored 3-1/2 inch high by 4-3/4 inch wide shaped painting mounted on 7-5/8 inch high by 6-1/4 inch wide art board. The image depicts a young boy, possibly an elf, attired in a black vest over a yellow blouse and red pants, a red & yellow elf's hat covering his black hair. The large eyed youth is collecting sticks in a field of flowers with birds, a squirrel and a rabbit looking on. The edges of the mount are roughly cut and the mount slightly soiled. Near fine. Together with biography of the artist printed on 7 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide white parchment paper. The American artist & illustrator Lee von Rackel (1918-1998) was a graduate of the Washington Institute of Commercial Art in New York City and the Norman Rockwell Famous Artist School in Westport, Connecticut. Her works appeared as magazine covers and newspaper illustrations as well as advertising posters and a greeting card for the American Red Cross. von Rackel was a member of the Anaheim Art Association, the Mission Viejo Association of Artists and Craftsmen, the Westminster Art Association, and the Art Association of San Juan Capistrano.

"In the 1860s Marcus Ward & Co began mass-producing calendars and greeting cards. Initially they printed cards for other publishers such as Charles Goodall & Son and Charles Bennett. By the late 1860s they began printing greeting cards under their own name. This venture turned out to be very successful, the company engaging Thomas Crane as artistic director and talented artists such as Kate Greenaway and Walter Crane as illustrators. One "Souvenir Amitie" is a pop-up variety of expensive card with a 3-dimension image of a young woman on a golden chariot, with two swans toting the carriage/chariot, floating on a river with rows of flowers and trees, the back-drop with a landscape setting. One is a Sprungli Chocolat, Zurich, card. / Names found in the archive: Uncle Ranny, Auntie Kate, Eric. Mrs. Walker, Donald, Evelyn Anderson, Mr. & Mrs. Watson Kaye of Ings Grove, Mirfield; Ethel Kaye, A. Freda F. Pilling, The Hagg, Mirfield; [Mr. & Mrs. A, E, Pilling]; Winnie, A.W. Dodds, Muriel, Frank, Mary Hutchinson, Kathleen, Jessie, Eveline, Helen, Gertrude Whitaker, Violette, Frank, Dona Sankey, Lilly, Auntie Blanche, Daisy Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. G. Leopold Caird, etc. All should be family, relatives or friends of the de Henseler family who later relocated to Switzerland. / "Feathers and Fashions" by Rev. Frederick Langbridge, is printed in Germany. / Eugene Eric de Henseler ["Eric"], born in Fribourg, 1889 and died in Geneva, 1960. Of a Swiss family originating from Bremgarten, Aarau/Argovie, he was partly educated in Great Britain and also in Fribourg and Lausanne. He was awarded a Ph.D. by the University of Fribourg in 1928 and his doctoral thesis was 'L'ame et le dogme de la transmigration dans les livres sacres de l'Inde ancienne.' He was an active member of the 'Societe theosophique' in Geneva and frequently contributed to articles on theosophy.

Colorful cards mounted on gray card stock bound in a thick red binder, cover detached. Cards in very good condition. One card missing from the first page.
