Zustand: Very good. - A sheet of cream card stock is folded to form 4 sides, each 4-3/8 inches high by 3-1/4 inches wide, printed and illustrated in blue. Signed in ink "Harry James" on the cover above a vignette of a band and a couple in evening dress dancing. There is a very light crease along the bottom edge of the card. Very good. Eastwood Gardens was a dance hall in Detroit, Michigan, which closed in 1953. The 1942 date of the signature is presumed because Harry James performed at "Michigan Theater" on August 28, 1942.On the two inner sides of the Eastwood card is a menu of beers, soft drinks, wines and champagne served there with prices. Their special Padre Sec California champagne is pictured on the 4th side with the price of their champagne cocktail.Harry James [1916-1983] was an American musician best known as a trumpet player and band leader who led a big band from 1939 to 1983. He was especially known among musicians for his remarkable technical proficiency and superior tone on the trumpet. He was extremely influential on up-and-coming trumpet players from the late 1930s to the 1940s.

Paper Boards. Zustand: Near fine. The Luncheon for the Honorable Harry S. Truman, held July 2, 1953 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, with a great inscription to his Treasury Secretary, John W. Snyder. The luncheon was hosted by The American Weekly newspaper. (illustrator). Luncheon Menu. Octavo, [8pp]. Printed card stock boards, title printed in black ink. Bound with red, white and blue string. Photograph of Harry Truman in Independence, Missouri, affixed to half title. Includes luncheon menu and a distinguished list of guests. This copy was inscribed to Sec. John Snyder, who was in attendance at the luncheon: "To the greatest Sec. of the Treasury, from his friend, Harry Truman." John W. Snyder (1895-1985) served as the 54th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1946 to 1953 under President Harry S. Truman. Snyder was a close personal friend of Truman, which played a significant role in his appointment. During his tenure, he focused on post-World War II economic stabilization, managing the transition from a wartime to a peacetime economy, and tackling issues related to inflation and the national debt. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Marshall Plan, which aimed to rebuild and revitalize war-torn European economies. Snyder's policies also included maintaining price controls and supporting housing programs to address postwar housing shortages. He left office on January 20, 1953, and remained friends with President Truman until his passing in 1972. Signed.

Cloth. Zustand: Near fine. The National Old Trails Road: The Great Historic Highway of America, inscribed by former president Harry S. Truman. Truman served as president of the National Old Trails Association during his rise in politics. (illustrator). Revised Edition. Octavo, 284. Textured brown cloth, title stamped in gilt on cover and spine. Solid text block, free of marks or notations. Includes large fold-out map of Route 40, affixed to rear endpaper, measures 15"x 45". Map has a few short tears at hinges, delicate at folds, but stable. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To W.H. Edwards, with kind regards and happy memories of the Old Trails. Harry Truman / Independence / March 25, 1958." "This is almost like campaigning for President, except that the people are making promises to me instead of the other way around." - Truman in a letter to Bess, as he traveled the "Old Road" as president of the association. In 1925, following his second defeat for Jackson County Judge, Harry Truman was 41 years old and "completely broke." He took jobs selling memberships to the Kansas City Automobile Club and as president of the National Old Trails Association. His travels for the Old Trails Association brought him closer to his political constituents and sharpened his political campaigning skills, all necessary for his eventual run for the Senate in Missouri, and future political fortunes. The National Old Trails Road Association was founded in 1912 to promote the National Old Trails Road, a transcontinental highway running from Baltimore, Maryland to Los Angeles, California. The road follows historic routes, including the National Road and the Santa Fe Trail. The association's primary objectives included advocating for the road's improvement and maintenance, facilitating cross-country travel and commerce, and preserving the historical significance of the route. Harry S. Truman, who later became the 33rd President of the United States, served as president of the association from 1926 to 1942. Signed.

In den WarenkorbZustand: Very Good. First edition hard back binding in half dark brown leather covers, five raised bands to the spine with gilt title lettering, top edge gilt, marble end papers. 8vo. 9'' x 6''. Contains [xviii] 382 printed pages of text, fold-out map to the rear. Sun fading to the spine, light foxing to the end leaves and in Very Good tight and sound condition. Smith played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Surrey, was educated, from 1886 to 1892, at Charterhouse School, one of the principal nurseries of the Association Football game, and learned many of the skills that subsequently brought him fame while boarding at the school. Smith captained the England team on at least 13, and possibly as many as 16, occasions (early records are inexact) between 1896 and 1901, winning at least eight games, possibly as many as ten, and drawing two. Smith retired from football shortly after his final international appearance and became joint headmaster at Ludgrove School, a preparatory school in Barnet recognised as one of the principal feeder institutions for Eton College. His fellow headmaster, Arthur Dunn - who had founded Ludgrove in 1892 - was another noted amateur footballer and had also played as centre-forward for England. Dunn died, aged only 41, a few months after Smith joined the school, and thereafter G. O. shared his duties with his fellow Corinthian, England captain, and great friend, William Oakley. He also taught, from 1918 at Sunningdale Preparatory School and died, aged 71, in retirement at his home in Hampshire. Ludgrove Prize Plate inside dated December 18th, 1906, SIGNED 'G. O. Smith.' Apart from the rare G. O. Smith signature, a poignant aside to the book is that the recipient student, Harry Keppel Chester, lost his life in World War 1. He was killed in action in the first GAZA Battle in 1917 and was posthumously promoted from Lieutenant to Captain H. K. Chester. His parish church, St. Mary the Virgin, in Birchanger, Essex has a marble memorial of his with the following inscription 'To the Glory of God and in loving memory of Harry Keppel Chester of this Parish, and of Kings College, Cambridge, Captain, 5th Battalion Essex Regiment, Born 18 July 1894, died 27 March 1917 of wounds received in action the previous day near Gaza, Buried at Khan Yunus, in Palestine. 'Go thy way, thy son liveth'. The Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Street, London has on view in their collection a gathering of his 1914-1917 letters, privately published in book form by his family in 1921. It is titled 'Letters from Harry Keppel Chester 1914-1917'. 218 pages. A poignant tragedy that 12 year old Harry received as his school prize 'A Boy in the Peninsular War', - killed in action - still a boy. Member of the P.B.F.A. SPORT [Football].
