Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First edition. Large 8vo. [6], vii-x, [2], 3-506 pp. Red cloth with lettering in gold and black on the front board and spine. Price of $3.50 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Illustrated by a portrait of the author, an in-text woodcut, and several plates: black and white drawings of scenes from the history of the Associated Press. Inscribed by the author on the free front endpaper. This covers the (what was then) hundred years of history the AP Press had witnessed: "the inside story of the only world-wide non-profit news-gathering association as it grew from pigeon post and pony express to telegraph and wireless". The author covers stories of journalists who suffered and died to cover events like the Spanish Civil War, the Russo-Japanese War, the Spanish American War, and the First World War. A moving history of journalism, difficult to find in collectible condition. A Near Fine book with minor offsetting to the front flyleaf; dust jacket is Very Good with a few hints of edge wear and toning, and a few tiny stray marks to the top edges of the flaps.

In den WarenkorbFirst edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Angus Thuermer - both 'KC' and I want you to have this copy in appreciation of your help, and with affectionate regards. Oliver Gramling 11/9/42". Thuermer (1917-2010) served as a foreign correspondent for the Associated Press in Berlin. He was interned by the Nazis upon the outbreak of war between Germany and the US in December 1941, and exchanged five months later. He is referenced several times in the book, which collects reports by Associated Press journalists on the war, and has made pencilled annotations identifying unnamed correspondents. The "KC" of the inscription is probably Kent Cooper, General Manager of the Associated Press. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black. With dust jacket. Extremities slightly rubbed, minor spotting and toning to edges; unclipped jacket worn and toned: a near-fine copy in very good jacket.
