La autora demuestra que esta concepción del mundo influyó de manera esencial en la estructura narrativa, estilo y simbolismo de la obra de Lowry. Grace estudia cada una de las obras del mítico autor de Bajo el volcán, incluyendo las narraciones de los veinte y los treinta, sus cinco novelas y bocetos y relatos póstumos. Concretamente analiza el trabajo de Lowry a través del texto inédito Work in Progress, en donde empieza a desarrollar el tema del "viaje". Si bien el estudio se centra en la creación del autor, también ofrece como contexto referencias a la crítica.
