Stunning wall map of North America, Central America and the West Indies, published in 1794. Features an ornate title cartouche with a Native American male, female and child lounging amidst furs, cloth, a parrot and a monkey. The map details topographical elements, locations of Native American tribes, extensive place names, forts, waterways and major routes and paths. Includes two insets: northern Canada, featuring Hudson and Baffin Bays, and the Baja California Peninsula and the Gulf of California according to Kino's explorations. Originally issued in 1755, this iconic map has undergone many additions and changes up to 1798, based on the surveys of Governor Pownall. This edition reflects the political boundaries decided by the Versailles Treaty of 1783 (or Peace of Paris), which most notably ended the American Revolutionary War. Article III of the treaty is shown in the upper right corner, outlining the fishing agreements between the British and Americans in Canada. According to Tooley's this is the "K" issue. It is noted that the west coast of Newfoundland is colored red to denote British territory. Green outlines indicate American holdings, and yellow, Spanish. Blue mark near South Sea.
