Gori was Medical Officer in the Dutch Army, wrote extensively on the subject and became later a university lecturer. He studied ophthalmology, writing his doctoral thesis "Contribution for New Hospital Hygiene". In 1870 he left the military and became ophthalmologist but remained active in the area of military medicine, surgery and hygiene. He was often commissioned by the Dutch government to attend world exhibitions and congresses on the subject, mostly as Head of Delegate, and submit his reports. The present title is such a report on two major world exhibitions on military surgery held in 1876 in Philadelphia and in Bruxelles. This copy was in the past in the collection of a military institution and is adorned with old small shelf tickets on cover and spine, small label inside back cover and old military institutional stamps to title-page. Shells of the Conoidean families Clathurellidae, Drilliidae, Horaiclavidae, Mangeliidae, Mitromorphidae, Pseudomelatomidae, and Raphitomidae formerly considered to be Turridae, collected in Dhofar, a Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman, are listed and discussed. Most of the species are figured. In total, 76 species have been studied, 32 of which were already known, including one species described while this paper was in press, nine species could not be determined to species level due to the small number of specimens at hand, most of them juveniles. Thirty-five species have been considered as new for science, being described and figured in the present work. Altogether the studied species belong to 31 genera, 30 of which were already known, and one is described as new for science.
