The Pindari Glacier is today a highly esteemed trekking goal in the Kumaon Himalayas, to the southeast of Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot. At that time Pratap Singh Rao, Gaekwad of Baroda was thought to be the 8th richest person on earth. After accession of Baroda to India in 1949 he settled in Monaco, where he died in 1968. The author apparently choose to overlook the even more grandiose pilgrimage the Maharaja of Mysore undertook in 1931 to Kailash (on which no fewer than 3 publications, all extremely scarce, were published).
