Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. [6], 97, [9] pages. Occasional footnotes. Glossary of Medical and Pharmaceutical Terms. Bibliography. Primo Michele Levi (31 July 1919 - 11 April 1987) was an Italian Jewish chemist, writer, and Holocaust survivor. He was the author of several books, novels, collections of short stories, essays, and poems. His best-known works include If This Is a Man (1947) (U.S.: Survival in Auschwitz), his account of the year he spent as a prisoner in the Auschwitz concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland; and his unique work, The Periodic Table (1975), linked to qualities of the elements, which the Royal Institution of Great Britain named the best science book ever written. Leonardo de Benedetti (born September 15, 1898 in Turin, Italy; died October 16, 1983) was an Italian Jew and physician who was interned in the Auschwitz concentration camp from February 1944 until its liberation in January 1945. After the end of the Second World War he and fellow inmate Primo Levi wrote Auschwitz Report, a factual report of conditions inside the camp. First published as "Rapporto sull" in 1946. Auschwitz Report is a non-fiction report on the Auschwitz extermination camp by Primo Levi and Leonardo de Benedetti. Whilst in a Soviet holding camp in Katowice in 1945, Levi and de Benedetti were asked by the Soviet authorities to document the living conditions in Auschwitz. De Benedetti was on Levi's transport from Fossoli, near Modena, Italy. Both were left behind when the camp was evacuated and so their time at Auschwitz coincided exactly. De Benedetti was a medical doctor, though he only acted as a doctor in the final weeks of his time at the camp. His survival was truly amazing given that he was in his 40's when he arrived, as normally those over the age of 30 were sent directly to the gas chambers on arrival. First Published in English by Verso, First printing [stated].

Softcover. Zustand: As New. First Edition. Sterling condition softcover copy, with unfurled tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear to the glossy card-stock wrappers. From the publisher's blurb, "In today's fast-paced world, older people find little opportunity to tell stories and pass on the wisdom of their experience and years. They remember the past clearly, but the art of storytelling has been lost. Reminiscence classes revive this art. People's lives are recalled and valued through listening, talking and discussing; and, at the same time, a wealth of social history is preserved for posterity. This book shows how this has been achieved in a local Jewish community and how easily the reader could do the same. "Capturing Memories" has 12 chapters, each depicting a different facet of East End Jewish life between the Wars. There are a further two chapters on the process of reminiscing and the value of remembering the past: appendices provide additional suggestions and guidelines concerning this process. The illustrations are unique and each one informs or entertains the reader." xv, 135 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
