Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. 1st Edition. A nice clean copy. Signed by Mona Gordon. The jacket appears to have been trimmed, presumably to remove edge wear. Some light dust dulling to the top edge. The final fate of the expedition led by Jean-François de Galaup, Comte de La Pérouse, has been a mystery ever since the frigates L'Astrolabe and La Boussole sailed out of Botany Bay in March 1788, vanishing, it seemed, into the vastness of the Pacific. The expedition left the French port of Brest in 1785. The two vessels, with a complement of 225 officers, crew and scientists, were crammed with supplies and trade goods for a four-year long Pacific voyage that sought to emulate the feats of discovery of Captain James Cook. King Louis XVI took a personal interest in the undertaking and helped draft the plans and itinerary. Signed by Author(s).

A set of seven small books showcases the work of six young British artists: Douglas Gordon, Rachel Whiteread, Mona Hatoum, Damien Hirst, Gary Hume and Sam Taylor-Wood. This close encounter with these works, and a consideration of their art historical and personal points of reference, will undoubtedly shed light on the state of recent British art. Also, many of the included works draw profoundly on our common human experiences of desire, yearning, aggression, loss and grief., Norwegian/ English, Year2000, Illust. B/W3, Illust.
