In den WarenkorbFirst edition of this sweeping large-format history of space exploration, signed and inscribed by twelve of the pioneering American astronauts of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. Folio, publisher's black cloth, with color illustrations and photographs throughout. Boldly signed and inscribed by the astronauts to Thomas or Mark Babinski, most signing twice, chiefly across the first and second half-title pages with others scattered throughout, the inscriptions dated 1994 and 1995. The signers are: Alan Bean (Apollo XII); Frank Borman (Gemini VII, Apollo 8); Charles Duke (Apollo 16); James Lovell (Gemini 7 and 12, Apollo 8 and 13); James McDivitt (Gemini IV, Apollo 9); Edgar Mitchell (Apollo 14); Wally Schirra (Mercury 8, Gemini 6, Apollo 7); Gordon Cooper (Mercury 9, Gemini 5); Walter Cunningham (Apollo 7); John Glenn (Friendship 7); Alan Shepard (Freedom 7, Apollo 14); and Alfred Worden (Apollo 15). In very good condition with tape reinforcement to the front hinge. A rare and desirable collection of signatures. Space: Discovery and Exploration is a lavishly illustrated large-format history of humanity's venture beyond the Earth, from the earliest rockets through the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs to the era of the Space Shuttle. The astronauts who have signed this copy were among the great pioneers of American spaceflight. John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth aboard Friendship 7 in 1962, and Alan Shepard, the first American in space, went on to command Apollo 14 and to walk on the Moon. Among the signers are four more moonwalkers, Alan Bean of Apollo 12, Charles Duke of Apollo 16, and Edgar Mitchell of Apollo 14, together with Frank Borman and James Lovell of Apollo 8, the first crew to orbit the Moon, and Lovell again as commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13. Wally Schirra remains the only astronaut to have flown in all three of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. Together their signatures gather the living memory of the first age of human spaceflight into a single volume.…

In den WarenkorbVintage NASA photograph from the Apollo 12 mission, the second crewed lunar landing, showing lunar module pilot Alan Bean carrying the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) across the surface of the Moon. Boldly signed and inscribed along the mat by three Apollo 12 crew members to Elton âStephâ Stepherson, Jr., one of the earliest African American employees of NASA: commander Charles âPeteâ Conrad, Jr. (1930-1999), âGood show - Letâs do it a third time. Many thanks - Pete, Charles Conrad Jr.â; command module pilot Richard F. Gordon, Jr. (1929-2017), âTo Steph - A great effort - see you in Paree! Dickâ; and lunar module pilot Alan L. Bean (1932-2018), âTo Steph - You did one hell of a good job for all of us, many many thanks, Alan L. Bean.â The piece is additionally signed and inscribed by twenty-four members of the missionâs supporting cast. From the collection of Elton âStephâ Stepherson, Jr. Matted. In fine condition. The piece measures 20 inches by 16 inches. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Zarelli Space Authentication. An extraordinary piece of space history. Apollo 12 was the second crewed mission to land on the Moon, launching from Cape Kennedy on November 14, 1969, just four months after Apollo 11. The command and service module Yankee Clipper entered lunar orbit on November 18, and the following day the lunar module Intrepid touched down in the Ocean of Storms, a short distance from the unmanned Surveyor 3 probe that had landed there in 1967. Commander Charles ?Pete? Conrad and lunar module pilot Alan Bean descended to the surface, becoming the third and fourth men to walk on the Moon, while command module pilot Richard Gordon remained in lunar orbit. Over two moonwalks, Conrad and Bean collected rock samples, deployed the ALSEP scientific instruments, and retrieved parts from Surveyor 3 for analysis, before a successful splashdown in the Pacific Ocean on November 24, 1969.…
