Two reports published in the 1903 Annual Report for the Smithsonian Institution: The first by Gombojab Tsybikov (1873-1930), who was an ethnic Buryat from Russia who spent over a year in Lhasa (1900-1901), sponsored by the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. Tsybikoff was credited for being the first photographer of Tibet and this report features 12 early photographic plates; The second is by Aurel Stein and features photographic plates and reserach ftom the first of his four expeditions into Central Asia.
