The first work is James Thomson's famous poem series The Seasons. The four poem cycle were extremely popular and influential to later poets. The second work is the poetical works of Oliver Goldsmith. Goldsmith had a successful career in writing both poetry and prose. His pastoral poem The Deserted Village condemns rural depopulation and the pursuit of excessive wealth. I'm actually not sure if this inscription is a pen and ink signature or a facsimile signature. However is a nice appreciation from the illustrator. A beautiful wee book that is worth preserving for future generations.
