Internally very good clean tight sound square, foxing limited to initial and final leaves, save bookplate no inscription or ownership marks of any kind. Beautifully bound in bright gilt ruled embossed lettered and illustrated full magenta calf leather rubbed to joints. Great shelf presence with 5 gilt ruled raised bands and 5 scrolled floral gilt decorated compartments, 1 short chip to head of spine, gilt lettered black leather, all edges very bright gilt, inner gilt dentelles. Jane Eyre and Lorna Doone are signed by previous owners to the front free endpapers. Externally, smart with slight bumping and rubbing, leading to minor loss of cloth at spine heads, tails and tips. Internally, front hinges generally weak, particularly to Lorna Doone, Jane Eyre and David Copperfield, leaving the first few pages of the affected volumes a little fragile. Text blocks otherwise firmly bound. With the exception of light spotting to the first and last few pages of each work, a very bright and clean collection. Very Good. book.
