One notes with curiosity that the title refers to 4 parts, and that all copies held in libraries contain only these 4 parts, yet a table present above the privilege mentions: Volume V, which gathers notes on Cicero and other fragments. Full marbled brown sheep bindings, contemporary or slightly later. Spines with raised bands decorated. Title and volume labels in tan morocco. Upper joint of volume I split at foot, lower joint narrowly cracked. Rubbing. Main title page creased with folds. Paper more or less browned. Restoration to outer margin of a preliminary leaf in volume I and in volume II. Pale dampstain at top of pages up to around column 330 of volume I. * Dyonisus Gothofridus the elder was a celebrated jurist courted by all the courts of Europe, of Protestant confession, the edition of Justinian's Corpus Juris civilis was his great work and remained the legal reference for more than a century, both for the bar and for teaching. Le "Corpus Juris Civilis" (littéralement "corpus de droit civil") est la grande compilation du droit romain tardif, ordonnée par l'empereur Justinien. L'édition publiée par Gothofredus en 1583, dont nous proposons ici la seconde édition augmentée, fera autorité pendant plus d'un siècle tant au barreau qu'à l'université (Camus & Dupin, 319). Baudrier indique que "la raison sociale "Héritiers de Barthélémy Honorat" eut une très courte de durée", et qu'il ne l'a rencontré que sur un seul ouvrage, publié en 1589 et 1590 (Baudrier, VI, 160).
