Bekannt wurde er als Bassist einer Punkrockband, als Vorbild nennt er im vorliegenden Buch immer wieder die Anarcho-Band "Crass". Gnarr arbeitete als Comedian - im Buch beschreibt er, welchen Gefallen er schon als Schüler daran fand, andere zu unterhalten und Späße zu machen -, wirkte in mehreren Filmen und Talkshows mit. Bei der Kommunalwahl 2010 erzielte seine Partei »Besti flokkurinn« die meisten Stimmen, und er wurde neuer Oberbürgermeister seiner Geburtsstadt. Dieses Amt bekleidete er bis zum Sommer 2014. Er selbst bezeichnet sich weiterhin als Anarchist. Gnarrs Schilderungen vom Aufwachsen als jugendlicher Außenseiter sind lebendig und anschaulich geschrieben. Ehrlich schreibt Gnarr davon, wie er an der Schule scheitert - und was das mit ihm macht (sich für unfähig halten, isoliert sein, in Depressionen zu verfallen.).
