Nice DW by Philip Simmonds, a little worn with a little loss to edges, a few small tears/creases, minor soiling. Humorous novel involving a stolen jewel case and missing clothes. Glyder also wrote under the pseudonym of Allen George Roper. Early edition in very scarce DW.

Cary (1951, first edition) Bound uniformly in orange cloth. 'The Compulsory Husband' was made into a film in 1930 starting Banks, Lillian Manton and Clifford Heatherley. In orange cloth bindings. Externally, generally smart. Some dampstaining to the rear of 'The Compulsory Husband'. Three hinges are tender. Ink inscriptions to front free-endpaper of two volumes. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Pages are bright, though with some spotting. Good. book.

A near fine copy in a complete but worn dustwrapper with some creasing and closed tears, especially to front panel. First edition. Scarce in any sort of dustwrapper -- and a copy which has survived far better than the reputation of its author, who has now been comprehensively forgotten. COPAC's listing of Glyder's work shows him to have been active between 1928 and 1949 (making it likely that this was his last book), and two films were made from his novels: The Compulsory Husband [1930] and The Compulsory Wife [1937]. Apart from that, nothing: Glyder's name does not seem to have troubled the scorers in any of the standard reference works.

The list of titles at the rear is in chronological order and lists this title first at the full 7s 6d price, earlier titles are all cheaper. The book is bright with only light rubbing to spine ends. A couple of small marks to front cover. Inside, clean with no inscriptions.
