From the archive of noted Hollywood… still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935, where he worked well into the 1950s. Actress, artist, and activist Gloria Stuart was a popular actress, primarily in pre-code films, and appeared in 47 films from 1932 to 1946, before temporarily retiring from acting to focus on a career as an artist. Her most memorable early performances include "The Old Dark House" (1932), "The Invisible Man" (1933), "Poor Little Rich Girl" (1936), "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1938), and "The Three Musketeers" (1939). Stuart returned to acting in the early 1980s, and appeared in bit parts in "My Favorite Year" (1982) and "Wildcats" (1986). In 1997 she starred as Rose Dawson Calvert in James Cameron's epic romance "Titanic" which earned her Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, and won her a Screen Actors Guild Award. Her final performance was in the 2004 Wim Wender's film "Land of Plenty." As well as an acting and art career, Stuart was a lifelong environmental and political activist, and served as a co-founding member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Hollywood Anti-Nazi League. 8 x 10 inches.
