Hardcover. Zustand: Fair. 109 p. 15 cm. Thin wooden boards (scabbard) with new paper spine and label. Corners and edges worn, some soiling to boards. Foxing inside. Front free endpaper and following page uncut. In Stearn's writings he takes the same stand as other anti-Masonic writers, that because Freemasonry is not essentially a Christian institution, it must be anti-Christian. Once a Mason himself, Stearns (1795-1874) gave up the order to attend a theological seminary in New York State. Otherwise, they wouldn't have him. By the time Stearns published this booklet, he was "Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Paris" (according to the title page) which isn't far from Utica. He wrote other theological treatises besides.
