Collotype is one of the most accurate and attractive methods of photomechanical tonal printing processes. Highly skilled and expensive process, it cannot produce more than a limited number of impressions. It has been used for single-sheet prints and luxury portfolios, and since the 1950s has been abandoned by all except a few small specialist firms. "Vatican Monuments of Archeology and Art"), the first dedicated to the sculptures conserved in the Gregorian Egyptian Museum. The works of art, Egyp…tian original and Roman copies, range from the Old Kingdom, up to the Coptic era. The catalogue faithfully follows the arrangement of the Rooms of those years, mainly focusing on the marble and stone sculptures: funerary stelae, sarcophagi, mythological, anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures both groups and individual pieces , as well as some fragments, not exhibited. The technical charts, in addition to providing the essential technical data material, size and state of conservation , also describe in detail the represented figures, with accurate references to the style and the processing techniques, thoroughly explaining the postures and the traits of the face. Charts also offer interpretations of the inscriptions and the hypothesis of dating, as well as bibliographic records.
